Can You Fry With Olive Oil?

At Fondo Gionino, we love to offer tips and ideas for healthier, tastier cooking!

Extra virgin olive oil is a healthier option all around when it comes to cooking.  Last month, we shared how to substitute butter with EVOO. Well, why not also fry with it?  We fry our favorite foods with our EVOO, such as

Breaded chicken cutlets

Meatballs

Potatoes (french fries!)

A variety of vegetables: think zucchini fritters – a favorite!

And much more!

The important thing to note is the smoke point, which refers to the temperature at which an oil or fat will start to give off visible smoke and begin to break down, therefore changing the flavor of your food.

EVOO has a high smoke point and home cooks generally do not fry food using intense heat, so you can feel confident frying with extra virgin olive oil!

For the best results when using EVOO to fry, your food should:

Be fully cooked

Have a beautiful golden crust on the outside

Not be greasy

Fondo Gionino’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the perfect choice for your cooking needs!

Jewish-style artichokes

or

Carciofi alla Giudia

are a typical Roman dish best enjoyed late winter/early spring.

Fry them in

Fondo Gionino Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

for a rich flavor and the perfect crispiness.

Check out the Jewish Quarter of Rome for some delicious authentic, kosher dishes – including Carciofi alla Giudia

The Jewish Quarter of Rome, also known as the Ghetto Ebraico di Roma or simply Roman Ghetto (Ghetto di Roma) was established in 1555, making it one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world. It is a vibrant area known for its history, culture, and delicious Jewish-Roman cuisine, including the famous Carciofi alla Giudia (Jewish-style artichokes).

When are artichokes in season?

February – April (Peak season for Roman artichokes – the best time!).
November – January (Early season, still good but less common).

Warmly,
The Fondo Gionino Team
